The earliest memory I have is when I fell over the step running into my family home. I cracked my head open and had to be taken to hospital, I guess it explains a lot about me. The next memory that I have was playing Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Megadrive II (Sega Genesis for those non-UK based people). Because of this, I have always had a soft spot for Sonic games but for the last 10 years or so they have kind of fallen off the face of the earth. Any attempt that Sega have made to revive the console have been 3D efforts which really haven’t captured the true essence of the little blue dude and his friends. That is until now. Sega are returning to their original formula with the release of Sonic Mania.
What is Sonic Mania?
Sonic Mania is a throwback of sorts. Sega has opted to revive the franchise by going back to it’s 2D pixelated artwork and I for one am more excited by this than I would be about a new 3D HD Sonic. It will follow the structure of the old school games too, having a clear path to follow from start to end as you amass gold rings and avoid enemies. You will definitely be able to play as either Sonic, Tails and Knuckles with potential other characters still to be announced.
Sonic Mania is scheduled to be released on August 15th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
