Three days ago we broke the story about the Battlefront II trailer being leaked. Well now there has been an official press release detailing some vague story points and the release date as well as a full length first trailer (which you can watch below). Let’s jump straight into it.
In the game’s campaign mode, players will take control of an elite member of the Imperial forces. The idea behind this is to show both sides of the Star Wars story. Motive director, Mark Thompson said “We wanted to create a campaign that told a story we haven’t seen before in Star Wars. It was important for us to tell a new, authentic story. One that gives players a brand-new perspective. By putting players in the boots of an elite member of the Imperial forces, we can show them what the battle was like from the other side.”
This is certainly an interesting take on a story which many people already completely know and it will be intriguing to see how well they manage to pull it off. One thing that does surprise me a little is that the story side of the game is being created Motive Studio, different from DICE who are making the multiplayer. That isn’t unusual in a game of this size but it can be difficult to pull off. There may be a little detachment between the story and multiplayer modes, although that may not be a bad thing. Only time will tell.
The multiplayer experience is yet again being created by EA DICE. They developed the multiplayer for the first Battlefront and more recently Battlefield One. Players will be able to take their pick from many of their favourite characters; including Yoda, Rey, Darth Maul, Luke, Darth Vader and many more. Online games will allow for up to 40 players and there will be multiple game modes with space battles returning. The space battles will be created by another team, Criterion who worked on the VR experience in the first Battlefront.
Battlefront II is due to be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 17th November. You can pre-order it HERE! (if the link isn’t working, check back in a few hours). There will also be an Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition available for pre-order which will allow gamers to play Battlefront II three days before everyone else on November 14th. EA Access subscribers will be able to play earlier still as they are able to play from 9th November.
